Corez
General Characteristics Corez is a pitch replacement as it produces
a higher baked strength, sharper edges and better mold surface than
regular pitch. Suggested Applications Foundry:
Grey Iron, Ductile Iron, and Non-ferrous foundries.
Sand System: Replaces pitch for making cores and
molds with dry sand, green sand, or skin-dried methods. Advantages
- Produces less smoke and fumes at pour off
- Collapses more readily at shake out
- It is non-toxic and non-irritating to the skin
- It is a powder but not dusty
- It has good storage properties and is moisture resistant
- Economical because less Corez is used than regular pitch Mixing
Guide Use at 1.5% to 2.5% with 2% being most common use rate based
on the weight of the sand. Thoroughly blend with the additional dry
ingredients of the molding sand to insure uniform dispersion.
