Description

Kunzite LiAl(SiO3)2: is the pink to violet variety of the silicate, Spodumene. It has a glassy transparency, and forms in flattened prismatic crystals with vertical striations. It is highly pleochroic, shifting from pale pink to light violet and even colourless, depending on the angle of observation, and though its perfect cleavage makes cutting difficult, it can be faceted into beautiful gems. Its a transparent and high lustre stone. Kunzite gets its beautiful lilac-pink colours from the presence of manganese in the stone. Its a gemstone thats loved for its colour and clarity. The brighter shade of colour pink or lilac, the more valuable the Kunzite stone is.
