Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVA, sometimes referred to as
PVOH, PVAL, CAS no. 9002-89-5) is one of the seldom high-molecular
synthetic polymers with water soluble property, which is
essentially made from polyvinyl acetate through hydrolysis. The
main specification includes the degree of polymerization, the
degree of hydrolysis and other special performance (including
viscosity, volatile, ash, PH value and purity).
Polyvinyl Alcohol is classified into two groups,
depending on the degree of its hydrolysis, one is fully hydrolyzed,
and the other is partially hydrolyzed. Hydrolysis levels from 87%
to more than 99%.
Polyvinyl Alcohol is odorless, tasteless,
translucent, white or cream colored granular powder, it has
substantial tensile strength, more flexibility, chemical
resistance, water solubility, excellent film forming,
biodegradability, stability to temperature variation, non-toxicity,
resistance to organic solvents.

Main Applications:
Polyvinyl Alcohol(PVA) has been applied in many fields, such as
industrial, commercial and food sectors. For various industrial
applications it helps enhance the mechanical properties of films
because of its high chemical and thermal stability, low
manufacturing cost, in the paper industry(as paper coating), PVA
can enhance the features and characteristics of paper by coating a
film layer onto the whole sheet, in textile industry as textile
sizing it is widely used as surface materials, which should be
retained on water surface; in food industry, polyvinyl alcohol is
used as a moisture barrier film for food supplement tablets, and
food packaging materials. (PVA used in high moisture foods in order
to retain the overall satisfactory taste, texture and quality of
the foods). It has been used to produce many end products, such as
resins, surgical threads and so on. It is also applicable in other
industries, including polymer recycling, binding, finishing agents,
emulsifiers, wood and leather.
