Description

H*3 Hot WorkTool Steel is a versatile chromium-molybdenum hot work steel. 

> It widely used in hot work and cold work tooling applications. 
> It resists thermal fatigue cracking which occurs as a result of cyclic heating and cooling cycles in hot work tooling applications. 
> Its excellent combination of high toughness and resistance to thermal fatigue cracking (also known as heat checking) H*3 is used for more hot work tooling applications than any other tool steel. 
> With good stability in heat treatment, H*3 is also used in a variety of cold work tooling applications. In these applications, H*3 provides better hardenability (through hardening in large section thicknesses) and better wear resistance than common alloy steels. 
> Also available as Electro-Slag-Remelted (ESR) products as well. The remelting processes provide improved chemical homogeneity, refinement of carbide size. 

Heat Treatment: 

Forge: At ***0° C****5° C Cool slowly and anneal then. 
Annealing: At **3° C***8° C; Cool slowly in furnace 
Stress Relieving: Heat slowly to **6° C***6° C, and then cool in still air. 
Hardening: Preheat to **5° C and then heat to ***0° C and hold for *5 to *0 minutes. Air cool (air quench) 

APPLICATIONS: Inserts, cores, and cavities for die casting dies, die casting shot sleeves, hot forging dies, extrusion dies, and plastic mold cavities and components that require high toughness and excellent polishability.
