High endurance, consistently neat cuts, no fiber-squeezing or backlashing of fiber within the cutting angle zone of the shears – these are just a few of the many benefits of using zirconia cutting blades in the production process. For cutting purposes CeramTec has developed a high-performance material zirconia – a special zirconia ceramic (TZP). It stands out from other materials with its extremely high cutting edge strength and very good flexural strength and hardness. The use of zirconia cutting blades improves efficiency in cutting textile threads, and thus increases profitability.


The number of applications in the textile industry ranges from splicers, suction tubes and residual tread shears for winding machines to final thread and side shears for looms. In many machines and applications, cutting blades made of zirconia are the material of choice and have set a standard.

Properties of Zirconia ZrO2

 

Zirconia (ZrO2) is an extremely refractory material. It possesses excellent chemical inertness and corrosion resistance at temperatures well above the melting point of alumina. Innovacera Zirconia is fully stabilized in the cubic crystal structure to avoid cracking and mechanical weakening during thermal cycling. In addition to its high temperature capability, Zirconia offers low thermal conductivity and is electrically conductive above **0ºC. Also has the unique ability to allow oxygen ions to move freely through the crystal structure above **0ºC.
