Liquid Collector are used to collect
liquid from upper bed for redistribution or draw off as
side-product or pump around. They are designed to give low-pressure
drop and collect all the upper bed liquid. It's very important to
mix all the liquid and provide a uniform composition for
redistribution. Chevron type and riser type are in common use.
Collection trays are installed below the support grid in order to
collect the liquid running off the packing.
Several types of collection trays were developed according to the requirements of application and material:
Usually, the liquid is led from the collection tray into a circumferential collection trough or in a draw-off pocket. The collection tray can also be used as an internal pump tank. In this case, the liquid remains at the bottom of the column during shut down of the column. The tank volume depends on the height of the gas chimneys.
