ORTHOP Walk with Science Introduction Understanding our DNA

Our passion for shoe making started with our founder Jose Antonio Carvalho in the orthopedic industry in ***9, when he started taking care of Hansen disease patients who needed special care with their lower limb. It was when he saw the importance of the collective professional skills and knowledge on biomechanics, health and shoemaking to rightly cater the needs of the patients.

He was one of the founders of the Brazilian Technical Orthopedic Association and one of the most recognized professionals in the Brazilian orthopedic industry. It was some time after the health care system got the Hansen disease under control, he began applying his knowledge on benefit of the diabetics.

After some time, because of the quality of his work in making shoes for his own patients with diabetic and rheumatic foot, many orthopedic shops and professionals throughout the country began asking him to produce shoes for their customers.

Therefore, in ***0 he decided to inaugurate a shoe manufacturing plant to cope with the increasing demand, thats how the first Brazilian diabetic shoe manufacturer ORTHOP was born.

The company today not only benefit from his expertise but also from his sons, Jose Marcelo Carvalho, who spent his childhood working and learning with his father at the orthopedic clinic. Jose Marcelo graduated in Physical Therapy, earned a Orthesist and Prothesist degree with the prestigious Universidade Don Bosco in the Dominican Republic and a post graduation degree with the Universidade Paulista de Medicina in So Paulo.

With this very unique DNA of complementary professional competencies we have been not only servicing orthopedic shops, but also expanded our business to supply therapeutic shoes for non-profit health institution and hospitals in Brazil and in Latin America.

We are very much passionate about making good products. We take care of the raw material, control every production step and employ just highly skilled workforce to make sure we deliver every shoe with maximum care, because we know how important our product is for the health of insensible foot. Every feature of our product is an answer for a potential threat to prevent the foot from ulcers, attrition, high temperature and excessive plantar pressure.
