In ***2 Sir Clifford Darling, husband of Lady Darling was appointed Governor General, Queen Elizabeths Representative in the Commonwealth of The Bahamas. As the First Lady of the country, Lady Darling wanted to contribute to the creative and socio-economic development of the people of The Bahamas and the Caribbean. To accomplish her goals, The Lady Darling Heritage Foundation of the Bahamas & Americas (LDHF), a non-profit organization was formed in January ***3. Incorporated in ***5, The Lady Heritage Foundation of America was granted tax exemption status under Section **1(c) of the Internal Revenue Code. Individuals and corporations desiring to assist in this work may become members of the Foundation One of the largest businesses worldwide is tourism, which has become extremely competitive. Much of the traditional amenities for tourist enjoyment have been exploited and repeat business to certain destinations has become sluggish. It is now incumbent upon destinations that rely on tourism as the base of their economy to look at adding new and exciting components to stimulate and enhance their product. With the current international economic crises, many of the governments whose countries rely on revenues from tourism to sustain their economy, are unable to afford to justify funding the required improvements to their destination against the day-to-day needs of their citizens; hence the steady deterioration of the tourism amenities. Lady Igrid Darling understands this situation particularly as it relates to the Bahamas where Tourism is the countrys principal industry. She has therefore decided, with the consent of the Foundations board of directors to put the full support of the foundation behind developing a Heritage Village (HV) with emphasis on a strong entrepreneurial training program and tourism entertainment as the core components of the HV development.
