Achi seed is usually used in Nigeria as a soup thickner. The common use for it is Achi Soup, Ukazi Soup, Oha soup. it can also be used to thicken vegetable soup and egusi soup. It is an alternative of thickners like ofor, cocoyam and yam. It is usually soaked in water for a few hours to soften the shell for easy removal, then it is blended or ground and is ready to use
