Titanium (Gr.2,Gr.3,Gr.5,Gr.7,Gr.*2)
ASTM B**7 - Titanium Grades C*2, C*3 & C*5
Titanium (ASTM B**7) is very light and very strong. Whilst it is an
expensive material weight for weight with many other materials, its
high strength can be utilized to good effect in designs, by
reducing wall thickness and subsequently weight and cost. The poor
wear and galling properties of Titanium must be considered in any
design. Casting and welding processes are required to be conducted
by specialists.
It has exceptional corrosion resistance to many corrosive media
including hydrochloric acid and wet chlorine.
WARNING! Do not use on Hydrofluoric acid and Methanol as excessive
corrosion and cracking will occur.
Titanium Chemical Composition
While Titanium is an element (No*2) and is commercially pure, as a
cast product it is often alloyed with small quantities of Paladium,
Aluminium & Vanadium.
Common grades in regular use:
Grade C*2—UNS R****0. Unalloyed titanium,
Grade C*3—UNS R****0. Unalloyed titanium,
Grade C*5—UNS R****0. Titanium alloy (6 % aluminium, 4 %
vanadium),
Grade C*7—UNS R****0. Unalloyed titanium plus 0.*2 to 0.*5 %
palladium,
Grade C*8—UNS R****0. Unalloyed titanium plus 0.*2 to 0.*5 %
palladium,
Grade C*9—UNS R****0. Titanium alloy (3 % aluminium, 2.5 %
vanadium),
Grade C**2—UNS R****0. Titanium alloy (0.3 % molybdenum, 0.8 %
nickel),
Grade C**6—UNS R****2. Unalloyed titanium plus 0.*4 to 0.*8 %
palladium,
Grade C**7—UNS R****2. Unalloyed titanium plus 0.*4 to 0.*8 %
palladium,
Grade C**8—UNS R****0. Titanium alloy (4 % aluminium, 2.5 %
vanadium, 1.5 % iron).
