Description
Introduction
:
Silica fume, also called as micro silica, silica
dust, which is a by-product of producing silicon metal or
ferrosilicon alloys. Silica fume consists primarily of amorphous
(non-crystalline) silicon dioxide (SiO2). The individual particles
are extremely small, approximately 1/**0th the size of an average
cement particle. Because of its fine particles, large surface area,
and the high SiO2 content, silica fume is a very reactive pozzolan
when used in concrete. The quality of silica fume is specified by
ASTM C ***0 and AASHTO M **7.
Application in
concrete:
Silica fume
is widely used in concrete field especially high – performance
project, such as bridge ,airport, hydropower station. Seawall,
railway projects. The main functions as follow :
(1)Enhance
the mechanical properties of concrete
The most
important character for concrete – high strength and early strength
has been used in substructures of high-performance
concrete
(2)Improve
the durability of concrete
Significant
improvements can be seen in the permeability resistance, abrasion
resistance, anti-corrosion against chloridion, refractorily and
anti-freezing of concrete
(3)Enhance
constructability
Improve
Shotcrete, Increase Early Strength, control Temperature contractors
can take advantage of the properties of silica-fume concrete to
expedite projects or to achieve properties that might otherwise be
impossible to achieve.
(4) Increase density, decrease freight
cost
By
densifying silica fume utilizing the Russil Tech Process allows the
media to become more flowable and controllable .Using advanced
Technology ,densities can be increased from
**0kg/m³ to **0 kg/m³, and is
still able to be dispersed back to its natural state.
