Stainless steel
Stainless steels represent a family of corrosion-resistant steels that contain at least *0,5 % of chromium. Apart from chromium, these steels are alloyed with nickel, molybdenum, titanium, niobium and other elements. Their mechanical properties and application depend on their chemical composition. A careful choice of the right steel grade is responsible for the durability and serviceability of a manufactured product.
We can offer you two grades of steel:
Ferritic:
Ferritic steels have ferrite (body centered cubic crystal) as their
main phase. These steels contain iron and chromium, based on the
Type **0 composition of *7% chromium. Ferritic steel is less
ductile than austenitic steel and is not hardenable by heat
treatment.
Austenitic:
Austenitic steels have austenite as their primary phase (face
centered cubic crystal). These are alloys containing chromium and
nickel (sometimes manganese and nitrogen), structured around the
Type **2 composition of iron, *8% chromium, and 8% nickel.
Austenitic steels are not hardenable by heat treatment. The most
familiar stainless steel is probably Type **4, sometimes called
T**4 or simply **4. Type **4 surgical stainless steel is an
austenitic steel containing ****0% chromium and ***0% nickel.
