ASTM B**7
C2,C3 equivalent to UNS R****0,R****0 & R****0
C5 equivalent to UNS R****0, R****1
Corrosion Properties

  • Excellent in nearly all cases
  • Poor fouling performance but immune to Microbiological Corrosion
Additional Uses & Comments
  • High strength, low density
  • Has been used where a *0 year life was required (Shell Troll- ballast system)
  • Casting is a specialist process
  • Very good for Acids (Nitric, Hydrochloric) and wet Chlorine too
  • Can be cost effective, particularly if designed to take account of high strength
     
Cautions
  • Casting is a specialist process
  • Welding- air must be excluded, otherwise hardening occurs.
  • Not resistant to Hydrofluoric Acid
  • Don’t use Methanol to clean- causes cracking
  • Designs must take account of low modulus of elasticity (**0 – **0 N/mm2)
  • Galling and wear properties not good
