Karoistanbul is the true specialist of cement floor tiles or mosaic tiles. The technical and esthetic qualities of our production is the same as the tiles which were perfected at the end of the last century in Istanbul, Izmir and at the other regions of Anatolia. Karoistanbul recovered authenticity together with fineness of patterns, purity of edges and satin-smooth and mellow like look of the tiles that is used intensively in private or public housing till the end of the last century. . The first hidraulic ciment tiles were produced towards ***0 in Viviers, in Ardech region, in France, by a mecanic who working at the time for Lafarge cement company. After a short time this floor-coverings has been adopted in just about the whole world (and also in the Ottoman Impire and later Turkey). For the modernist architects it was the flooring material of choice, given its great decorative potential, and it lived a golden age with architects such as Gaudi, Domanech i Muntaner or Puig i Cadafalch, finally becoming a must for every home. . Between ***0 and ***0 a different turn of events took place: Urban growth and the apperance of ceramic and some new materials ( such as granite, linoleum), because of their cheaper price and simple producing tecniques, led to decline in the use of crafted materials. Then mosaic tile producers admitted defeat. In the ***8 the painters and decorators of Mavi Pencere GÃ&frac*4;zel Sanatlar Atölyesi who are educated at the faculties of fine arts in Ä°stanbul, established Karoistanbul and started to produce mosaic tiles.
