Air hockey is a recreational game involving two players attempting to score points by getting a puck into their opponent&#**9;s goal. Each player is equipped with a mallet with which to strike the puck. The game was invented in ***2 by Bob Lemieux, a fervent ice hockey fan who was employed by Brunswick Billiards. Contrary to popular belief, Bob Lemieux is of no relation to former National Hockey League superstar Mario Lemieux. Bob had the resources he needed because of his employer and had his passion for ice hockey, and the result was a huge financial success. Just a few years later, tournaments began to spring up all over the United States. About this time, in order to make and enforce uniform rules, the United States Air Table Hockey Association (USAA) was formed. Today the USAA is still the only sanctioning body and officially recognized organization governing air hockey regulations and tournaments. The game is primarily popular in the United States, with popular centers of play located in Houston, San Francisco, Denver, New York, and Chicago, although it is also popular in some foreign countries. Barcelona, Spain, is a hotbed for air hockey, as is St. Petersburg, Russia.
