How to use Voacanga africana for treatment?
African Voacanga bark powder can be used as a decoction at a rate
of 15 grams of bark per liter of water.
Mainly used as a stimulant, the grated root of African Voacanga is
also prepared as a decoction.
It is used in traditional medicine for its cardiotonic and
aphrodisiac properties.

Voacamine and voacangine are two chemicals isolated from the trunk
bark and roots of the Voacanga tree.
These have anti-inflammatory, neuroprotective and hypotensive
properties that help reduce blood pressure.
In Mali, Voacanga africana integrates traditional pharmacopoeia in
the treatment of high blood pressure.
Traditional practitioners also consider the bark of the tree for
its anti-ulcer properties.

properties.
The bark of Voacanga africana contains tabersonine which helps
reduce the formation of lesions in the digestive tract (stomach and
duodenum).

Local traditional healers (shamans) prescribe the leaves and bark
of Voacanga Africana to reduce inflammation and relieve mental
disorders. A decoction prepared from the boiled root is used for
painful hernia, dysmenorrhea, heart disorders (spasm, angina), and
blennorrhea. But, beyond local beliefs, the effects of the
molecules of this root on the human brain could above all protect
it from the degeneration produced by Alzheimer's and Parkinson's
diseases.
