INTRODUCTION

Phosphating is the most widely used metal pretreatment process for the surface treatment and finishing of ferrous and nonferrous metals. Due to its economy, speed of operation and ability to provide excellent corrosion resistance, wear resistance, adhesion, and lubrication properties, it plays a significant role in the automobile, process and appliance industries. Though known to be in use since late ***0s, the low temperature phosphating processes have become more significant today due to the escalating energy costs.

 

 

SCOPE

FINBON is designed to provide an ideal Zinc Phosphate coating on iron ,steel and zinc surface. The system works ideal at room temperature within the range of *0C to *0C. The zinc phosphate coating so developed provides a network of fibrous crystals. These crystals facilitate the excellent adhesion of paint to the base metal and inhibits corrosion development.

 

 

DESCRIPTION

Zinc phosphate coating gives base metal surfaces non-conductive and non-metallic properties. It also provides an excellent base for organic coatings such as paints, oils, lacquer and waxes. It is a low cost alternative to electroplating. Phosphate coating is generally specified in coating weight rather than coating thickness. The coating weight of phosphate coatings are in range of **8 gms/sq.ft. Phosphate coating provides excellent corrosion resistance and can withstand ***0 hours of neutral salt spray test.Phosphate coating also reduces break-in wear on adjacent moving surfaces, improves torque-tension relationships and provides anti-galling and lubrication during cold forming processes such as deep-draw extrusions.

 

 

PROCESS

FINBON solution can be used by immersion or spray. The job to be processed is treated with FINBON working solution for *5 to *0 minutes in immersion bath and 2 to 3 minutes at *0 to *5 psi in spray system. After phosphating the metal surface should be thoroughly rinsed with clean water to remove the traces of chemical. The job can then be dried and painted.

 

ADVANTAGES

  •   The FINBON can be used to phosphatise iron and steel surfaces at an ambient temperature of *0 to **0C

 

  • Cost of phosphating at ambient temperature is reported to be *0% less than the conventional phosphating process operating at higher temperature due to savings in energy consumption.

 

 

  • By using FINBON the chemical consumption is reported to be *0 to *0 percent less then the conventional phosphating process operation at higher temperature.
