For high quality oven, refractory mortar should be used in only up to 6mm thick application. Refractory mortar is an unshaped fireproof material, which is a combination of powder materials and bonding agents. Refractory mortar is mainly used as the joints and coating materials in building refractory bricks. When refractory mortar is used as joints materials, the quality has great effect on the building. Refractory mortar should not be used to plug holes or big gaps between firebricks. Thicker mortar applied always shrinks; shrinkage would create increased brick movement between cold state and state expanded by heat. Every time this happens bricks change position, just a little bit but enough to cause rebuilding job in the future.

Refractory mortar application

As part of our range we supply refractory mortars to cover most applications. Refractory mortar is used by adding water or aqueous solution. Refractory mortar must have well liquidity and plasticity to facilitate the construction. Refractory mortar should has necessary bonding performance in the construction and after the construction to ensure the building and ground to be a whole in order to has the ability of anti-erosion of gas and slag .

There are two methods of applying refractory mortar to the brick. The refractory mortar can be spread onto the brick with a margin trowel. Or the brick can be dipped directly into the bucket, with excess mortar being scraped off by trowel.

Refractory mortar is, as a rule, applied to the brick and never to the bed on to which it will be layed. As the brick is layed, refractory mortar should be seen to squeeze out from all the length of the bed and head joint, ensuring **0% contact. Squeeze out should be scraped off by trowel immediately after laying and scraped back into the bucket.
