The Orbea Orca M*2 marries the lightest eleven-speed component group on the market with the balanced ride of the Orbea Orca. SRAM's Red *2 has that title, and the *2 signifies that you can use every single chain ring and cog combination without issue. It's a great design feature and one that every rider can take advantage of.
 
The frameset is the heart of the bike and here you can choose between the monocoque Race and Performance framesets. They look identical and have identical features, thanks to coming out of the same molds. The differences are few. One is weight. The Race is **0g lighter, on average. The Race also comes with an integrated **0mm long Monolink seat post and Selle Italia Monolink SLR Flow Saddle. The Monolink system not only has incredible precision and wide-range of adjustment, but also saves weight and allows a super-narrow saddle nose, thus reducing friction on the legs. The Race is Orbea's ProTour offering. The Performance is **0g heavier owing to more economic (and heavier) carbon-fiber plies); this also makes the bike feel a bit more compliant. The Performance also has an integrated **0mm long seat post with *5mm of setback. But it is topped by a traditional clamp and a Selle Italia SL Flow saddle.
 
Red *2 has a number of inimitable features. The levers are canted outwards for easier reach. The double-tap shifting, one lever for both the up- and down-shifts, feels light and shifts fast. The rear derailleur, with it's cable-pull ratio, moves easily across the entire eleven cogs. The yaw front derailleur pivots in two planes, helping keep the chain from rubbing in all eleven cogs. The single-pivot brakes are designed to work with not only traditional narrow rims, but modern wide rims with equal facility. To make the bike functional wherever you take it, it comes with a *0/*4 compact crankset and eleven-speed ****8 cassette.
 
Mavic's Ksyrium Elite clinchers with high-performing Mavic tires wired on are selected for most of Orbea's top bikes. And for good reason. This is a great all-purpose wheelset that is durable enough to be beaten in training and light enough not to hold you back. And the bearings will probably last longer than the rims.
 
While Orbea has worked hard to make the all the parts of their bikes integrate well, it isn't a forced marriage between their favorite parts and you. Their Orca platform is very flexible. They made a genuine effort to future-proof their bikes. The cables run internally via their Direct Cable Routing, but you can just as easily pull the derailleur cables and run electronics without any changes to the bike. Likewise the BB*6 bottom bracket shell can accommodate just about all cranks with the bearings embedded in the shell.
 
Orbea offers up the M*2 bike in two variations, Race and Performance. Race is their ProTour-level frameset, **0g, with an integrated **0mm long Monolink seat post and Selle Italia Monolink SLR Flow Saddle. The Monolink system not only has incredible precision and wide-range of adjustment, but also saves weight and allows a super-narrow saddle nose, thus reducing friction on the legs. The Performance comes out of the same mold, uses more economic carbon plies, is about **0g heavier, and it's integrated post has a standard clamp and is topped by a Selle Italia SL Flow saddle—almost identical performance at a much nicer price.
 
The Orbea Orca M*2 is light and fast, exactly as you'd expect an Orca to be.
