and Waounan Indians live in the providence of Darien. They
have come together, and are sometimes recognized as one entity
represented in the Panamanian government. However, they migrated

traditions. The Embera Indians are famous crafters and artists
and are most known for their basket weavings, beaded jewlery and
wood carvings.

Cham o Ember-Cham es un grupo tnico indgena colombiano que habla
un dialecto de la lengua Ember : Cham quiere decir "cordillera"
yembera significa "gente"; los Cham son, entonces, la Gente de la
Cordillera, por oposicin a los Ember propiamente dichos, que
viven en las selvas de las llanuras de la regin del Pacfico, y a
los Embera-Kato, que habitan las cuencas de los ros de Urab y el
Alto Sin.
Los Cham, como los dems Ember, siempre han seguido un patrn de
poblamiento disperso. Viven en distintas comunidades andinas en
los departamentos de Antioquia, Caldas, Risaralda, Quindo y Valle
del Cauca.
Por sus diferencias lingsticas dialectales, los indgenas Ember
*-en Antioquia, Colombia*- se subdividen en Catos *-quienes hoy
***7 constituyen el *1% de la poblacin total indgena del
departamento*- y en Chamies *-que representan el *6%*-. Adems
viven en el Departamento otras etnias como los Zen y los Cuna
*-que constituyen el *3% y 8% respectivamente, de la poblacin
total (0.I.A ***9)*-.
