We buy and export Fuerte and Hass varieties from Smallholders purchasing upto 100 tonnes a year. We work closely with smallholder farmers to improve quality and reliability of supply. An estimated 70% of Kenyan avocados even those for export are produced on smallholder farms. Many farmers are not linked to exporters through an out-grower scheme, farmers market their avocados through government-certified agents like us. We typically harvest avocados ourselves and organize transport to Nairobi packhorses.

Hass variety Kenya produces the Hass variety of avocado which is termed a "dark skinned" avocado as it turns dark purple when ready to eat. The temperate climate is perfectly suited to high quality avocado production and our Hass product is known for its good taste and eating quality. Features:

Fuerte variety Fuerte is mostly grown by Smallholders. This cultivar is termed a "green skin" as the skin remains green as it becomes ripe and ready f or eating. |
Once at the factory, avocados are quality-checked, sorted, washed, waxed, pre-cooled and packed in cartons. At Avocado Packhouse all avocados are graded to eliminate fruit with physical quality defects such as insect and wind damage, bruising and sunburn and the fruit is also weight sized.
Fruit is packed into cartons with net weights of either 4 kg or bulk packs of 8 kg. Packed fruit is then placed in cold rooms to cool in preparation for shipping in refrigerated 40ft containers to Europe.
Our Kenyan fresh avocados for export are picked and packed in sizes of 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22 and 24.
Packing is done in using upgraded laminated packing 4kg cartons (35cm x 28.5cm x 9cm) Â or depending on the request of the customer (mostly in packaging carton boxes of 4kg, 5kg, and 10kg). The 4kg boxes are packed into pallets which hold 276 boxes each. Every 40 cubic feet container holds 20 such pallets (276 boxes*20 pallets =5520 boxes of 4 kg each / 40 foot container.
Besides, the boxes comply with all the necessary standards for export including being cold and weight resistant.
Prices
Our real time prices vary due
to the many factors at play. However, as an indication, the
prices (FOB) range from US$1.25 US$1.75 per kg. Â Price
range per box is US$ 5 US$ 7 (FOB).
For orders less than one
container per week, prepayment (by Telegraphic Transfer) is
required. For orders more than 1 container per week, payment
is by letter of credit or by bank/corporate guarantee subject
to the existing business relationship.
 Shipment
Most of fresh avocadoes are shipped in CA (Controlled Atmosphere) containers to Mombasa port on route to Europe and Middle East by sea. The time taken from packing to reaching European market is 30 days on average. The shipment to Egypt and Middle East takes 12 - 15 days.
