Topical treatment of acne, furuncle, inflammatory pustules. COMPOSITION Erythromycin base ........................... 0.4 g Excipients q.s .....................................*0 g (Butyl hydroxytoluene, hydroxypropyl cellulose, propylene glycol, citric acid, ethanol *6%, doves flavor, purified water). DOSAGE FORM Dermal gel. PRESENTATION Box of 1 tube x *0 g. ACTIONS Erythromycin is a macrolide antibiotic; it inhibits bacterial protein synthesis. Following topical application to the skin, the drug inhibits the growth of susceptible bacteria and reduces the concentration of free fatty acids in sebum. These free fatty acids are irritants and are believed to cause acne INDICATIONS Topical treatment of acne, furuncle, inflammatory pustules. CONTRAINDICATIONS Hypersensitivity to any components of the drug PRECAUTIONS Avoid contact with eyes, nose, mouth, mucosa, and open wounds. If accidental contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with water. INTERACTIONS Concurrent use with cosmetics containing alcohol may also cause irritations or xeroderma. It is cautious when concomitant use with other topical anti-acne drugs; especially the drugs contaning peeling, desquamating or abrasive agents. It is advisable to avoid applying dermal preparations containing erythromycin and clindamycin concomitantly because of possible competitive binding for the *0S-ribosome subunits. ADVERSE EFFECTS A feeling of xeroderma may occur at the beginning of treatment. Mild acanthesthesia (maybe by alcohol excipients but not by erythromycin). Inform your physician about any adverse effects occur during the treatment. DOSAGE & ADMINISTRATION A thin layer of gel should be applied to the cleansed affected areas twice daily. As a rule, an *-week treatment period will be necessary, but in instances of recurrence, the therapy period may be prolonged further. Or as directed by the physician.
