La description

The dual functionality and price point of the Disposable Compliance product make it an ideal tool to assist retail pharmacies in combating drug waste both on the inventoried side and on the consumer side.

Inventoried Drug Waste - Currently, both prescription and non-prescription drug inventories carried by retail pharmacies use a static expiry date to indicate the effective date range of products. This static expiry date is usually printed on the product, the product’s container or both. A major problem with this practice is that it places the onus on pharmacy staff to continually have to monitor expiry dates manually to ensure that prescription and non-prescription drugs are liquated before expiry occurs. While some drug manufacturers offer credits for expired inventories, others do not. Thus pharmacies who carry non-credit drugs, and most do, experience varying operating losses each year due to inventoried drugs expiring before they can be sold. Liability is also a consideration as in most countries; it is illegal to fill a prescription with an expired drug. Despite that, those oversights continue to happen on a daily basis.

Consumer Drug Waste - On the consumer side, the high failure rate of taking medications as prescribed is a major problem worldwide. The term for this failure is non-compliance. According to studies, out of the approximate *0,**0,**0 prescriptions dispensed daily in North America and Europe, only about *0 percent of patients typically take their medications as instructed. In the U.S. alone, this results in a waste of approximately $**7 billion annually in direct and indirect costs. Granted there are numerous types of devices available on the Internet that can assist with improving compliance but none of these devices have a retail price in the $1.*5 to $1.*5 range, are promoted at the dispensing level to all prescription consumers regardless of age or medical condition and have the added capability to track the expiry dates of pharmacy drug inventories. Another key element that differentiates the Disposable Compliance technology from competing products is that the life span is pre-determined to match the requirements of an intended application. Once that life span ends, the Disposable Compliance technology simply stops working and is inexpensive enough to be replaced or recycled as required.
