Decription
The cold worked tool steel D2 is a high carbon, high Chromium alloy steel. It is with high
dimensional stability in heat treatment. A duplex microstructure with coarse complex
carbides provide a steel with high wear resistance good toughness. It is suitable to
processing stock thickness up to 3mm.
Main Application
All kinds of scissor, inlay blade and woodworking blade. High duty cutting tools (dies and
punches), long run form rolls, tube mill rolls, deep drawing tools for sheet and strip, shear
blades, circular shears, thread rolling dies, small moulds for plastic industries and
pressing tools for ceramic industries. Cold heading mould, deep drawn mould and impact
extrusion moulds.

Hardening
Hardening should be done a neutral salt bath, fluidized bed or other controlled
atmosphere furnaces. Preheat gradually to **0 to **0 ℃ then rise to *******0 ℃,
followed by air cooling. It is essential to soak at hardening temperature for ****0 minutes.
Obtainable hardness ****5 HRC.
Tempering
Tempering should be carried out immediately on completion of quenching. For maximum
hardness and abrasion resistance heat to ******0 ℃ holding at temperature 1 hour for
each *5mm section. Tempering curve given indicates typical values obtained from air
cooling from ***0 ℃. Nitriding treatment from improved retention of hardness is
recommended for certain applications.
