Guar is an annual plant, which can grow in extremely drought resistant conditions and can thrive in semiarid regions where most plants perish. The guar bean has a large endosperm, which contains significant amounts of guar gum, which is the primary marketable product of the plant. Guar is used as cattle feed and green manure and can be eaten as a green bean. Guar Gum, which is a very important product of guar seed processing, is used as an emulsifier, thicker and stabilizer in food, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals, explosives, textiles and carpets, oil well drilling, mining, construction and paper industry. The by-products of guar processing, ‘Churi’ and ‘Korma’ are used as cattle feed. Guar gum recovery normally comes around *1% of total guar seed processed, whereas Churi and Korma accounts for *9% and *7% respectively.
Uses Of Gaur:
The properties of guar powder, which make it useful in various applications, include its easy solubility in cold and hot water, film forming ability, resistance to oils, greases and solvents, good thickening agent, water binding capacity, high viscosity and functioning at low temperatures Given the versatility in its use for food, feed and industrial applications, guar and its derivatives attract good demand from the industrial/food-processing sector. It is a useful fodder crop and as a leguminous plant it also adds nitrogen to the soil, there by enriching soil quality. Crop residues (stubble and header trash) are a source of valuable, high protein animal feed. The crop can also be used to produce high quality hay. Its seed (bean) is mainly used to produce guar gum, which has wide-ranging applications.
