Betaine homocysteineS-methyltransferase (BHMT) is a zinc containing
catalytic enzyme. It belongs to the family of transferases,
especially those containing one carbon group, which are involved in
the metabolism of glycine, serine, threonine and methionine. It has
been confirmed that the enzyme can bind to tubulin and link to
autophagy. It has been shown that the enzyme can regulate the
expression of apolipoprotein B and increase the level of related
lipoproteins. In addition, bhtm is an important Hcy
methyltransferase in vivo, which plays an important role in the
regulation of plasma Hcy concentration.
