Agarwood, also known as gaharu, oud, aloeswood, eagle wood and many
other names depending location, is an extremely rare and precious
natural oil obtained from several species of Aquilaria trees. It
originates in North Eastern India, Bhutan and parts of South East
Asia, especially Indonesia, Vietnam and Cambodia.
Agarwood has a very long history of medicinal use, valuable
component of incense, and as an aromatic oil. The fragrance of
Agarwood comes from a process where fungi infect the trees,
producing oleoresin which saturated the wood. It is through the
oleoresin saturated wood where the aromas come from. It fragrance
is complex, deep and woody. It is highly prized as an incense in
China and Japan, while popular as an oil in Middle East.
Because of its rarity, Agarwood is not well known in west, but
should be experience by every proficient of essential oil and all
the expert which seriously developed in aroma therapy and natural
perfumery
