The Omni is a remarkable piece of furniture, able to be used as a coffee table, book case or wardrobe! It is also designed to be easily disassembled, transported and re-assembled - ideal for mobile people living in smaller spaces. The inspiration for this piece came while watching university students shift their belongings twice a year and noticing what a struggle it was to move larger furniture objects, particularly down stairs. Shifting also required at least a couple of able bodied people as well as access to a car with a trailor. It was also observed that furniture didn't match - there was no continuity between the various pieces someone might own. Highly talented Otago Product Design School graduate Demetre Tryfiatis did a great job in turning the above brief into a one piece of furniture that met all of these needs and the Omni was ***** UsesCoffee Table - the basic unit can be used with or with out the shelves for storage that sit underneath. It works well as a larger sized coffee table referencing old style wooden packing boxes.Bookcase - by turning the table on its side and changing the axis of the shelves the omni works well as a very stable book case.Wardrobe - removing the shelves and placing the unit on its other axis provides ample space to hang ***** Omni is made from sustainably produced 17mm New Zealand Pine plywood with New Zealand Pine solid wood rails. Future FunctionalityWe will shortly be extending the system to enable the base to also be used as a chair, sofa or bed base. This will provide a sofa that can be quickly converted into a bed and back again very easily. Perhaps even more importantly 4 or 5 of these units will provide all the furniture someone might need - imagine carrying all your furniture on public transport!AssemblyThe Omni comes in three main pieces plus 2 shelves. It is assembled and disassembled quickly using 4 hex bolts.Dimensions950mm long by 900mm wide by 400 high.
